CRANE STYLE QI GONG |
|
Crane Style QI Gong is a standing exercise with slow and graceful movements that require minimal physical effort. This exercise consists of a sequence of five sections. The entire sequence takes about 20 minutes to perform.
Crane Style QI Gong was developed in Beijing in the early 1980s. Its movements are based on the crane, a quiet, non-competitive creature which In the Orient symbolizes longevity and peacefulness.
The movements are simple to learn and practice. Each section concentrates on moving chi to a different area, opens up different points and strengthens chi flow throughout various meridians.
Purpose of the Five Sections
- Allows the body's internal QI to communicate with the environment or to take in fresh energy from the universe and expel stale energy from the body.
- Opens the three yang meridians and three yin meridians on the hands.
- Loosens the vertebrae and regulates the flow of QI in the Ren (Conception) and Du (Governor) channels. This causes the yang QI to rise and the yin QI to sink.
- Releases stagnation in the upper and lower limbs and improves QI circulation.
- A standing meditation that regulates the mind (concentration), the respiration (breathing), and the body (posture).
Instructor Cathy Benedetto, Dipl. Ac. (NCCAOM) trained in Crane Style Qi Gong while studying at the Traditional Acupuncture Institute.
